More Teen Titans Year One goodness

August 2nd, 2007
Author Kevin Melrose

I realize I’m probably far too excited about the Karl Kerschl-drawn Teen Titans Year One miniseries, but I’ve come to terms with that. Nostalgia + Kerschl Art = Excitement.

At Comic-Con, DC Comics unveiled one of the covers for the miniseries, which Kerschl has posted at the Horhaus blog, along with the above early image of the team that he drew “to nail down the character designs.”

Actually, I think my excitement for this one might just be on par with yours. Each new piece of artwork we get to see from this series just makes me angry that the book isn’t in my hands IMMEDIATELY.

If the interiors look this good, I’m all over it…I do miss the cartoon a lot.

  3. Zeitgeist Says:

Looks interesting.. does anyone know the reason why Aquaman (kid?) is grey?

  4. Kevin Melrose Says:

I’ve not seen any comments from DC, but between this image and the cover, it looks as if they’re playing up the amphibious aspects of Aqualad. Like the Silver Age Aquaman, Aqualad couldn’t survive out of water for more than an hour.

  5. Scott William Foley Says:

That (along with the other promo image for this title) is the FIRST time I’ve EVER looked at Aqualad and thought, “Cool.”

  6. Tomer Says:

    Aqualad creeps me out.

  7. Mark D. White Says:

Other than making Garth look just freaky (no offense to amphibious-Americans), this image is much better than the last.

I believe that Garth had to be in the water every so often in Devin Grayson’s “The Titans” also. (Can’t remember if it was everyhour – maybe every 24 hours.)

He could at least towel off a bit before grabbing the XBox controller.

  9. Ian Astheimer Says:

    Good lord, this looks fantastic.

  10. Bully Says:

Looks fun and fantastic, but I sure hope Wonder Girl doesn’t spend the whole issue moping over David Cassidy magazines. Kick some butt, Donna.

  11. Tony B. Says:

Normally the art for a comic doesn’t really get me too jazzed, I tend to focus on the writers, but jebus this looks fantastic! One thing I’ve always wondered about though was Robin’s shorts and why they are scaled. Anyone know?

  12. dr. borracho Says:

If I were to say Wonder Girl looks hot in that picture, will Chris Hansen ambush interview me?

  13. Julienne Paris Says:

Geez, everyone keeps saying Aqualad looks creepy.

    Here’s a little fact:
    HE’S MY LOVEMUFFIN.

I don’t care how creepy everyone else thinks he looks. He’s /mine/.

  14. Lilah Espinoza Says:

@Tony B.: He’s in a scaled speedo because…well, Robin 1 was a dork. Holy pixie boots and speedo, Batman. A brightly colored, dorky costume like that never seemed appropriate for the partner of BATMAN of all people…
No offense intended to anyone who likes him as Robin.
@Julienne Paris: JULIENNE! YOU’VE GOTTEN OVER EVERY OTHER FICTIONAL CHARACTER YOU LIKED! Then you’ll say he looks creepy…WHICH HE DOES! AT LEAST I MARRIED THE FICTIONAL CHARACTER I FELL IN LOVE WITH! AND HAD A KID WITH HIM!
    Johnny Justin: Mom?
Lilah: NO! KYO IS YOUR MOM! I’M YOUR DAD.
    Kyo: NO I’M NOT!
Now let us hold a moment of silence for my caps lock key. OMMMMM…
