DreamWorks has acquired the movie rights to two Oni Press titles, Ted Naifeh’s Courtney Crumrin and Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt’s The Damned.
According to Variety, Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald (Men in Black, The Ring) will produce both films.
The multi-volume Courtney Crumrin series focuses on a precocious misfit who moves with her social-climbing parents into the spooky home of her even spookier uncle. There, she’s introduced to magic, fairies, goblins, ghosts, talking cats and annoying classmates.
The Damned is a crime drama with a supernatural twist in which rival gangs have to join forces to take on a demonic clan that muscles in on their territory.
The trade paper reports that Eric Glitter is also producing the two projects through Closed on Mondays Entertainment, the film-production arm of Oni Press.
