Watchmen

Rumors have swirled for weeks, if not months, about casting for Zack Snyder’s adaptation of Watchmen, but now Warner Bros. has confirmed the actors.

Variety reports that Billy Crudup has been cast as Dr. Manhattan, Patrick Wilson as Night Owl, Matthew Goode as Ozymandias, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the Comedian, Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach, and Malin Akerman as Silk Spectre.

Snyder will officially unveil the ensemble at Comic-Con.

The movie, based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ landmark 1986-87 DC Comics miniseries, has bounced from studio to studio, and director to director, for years.

Man! Not really a big name in the bunch. I’m disappointed Jude Law isn’t playing Ozymandias. He seemed a good fit and is a fan of the comic.

  2. Steve J. Says:

Jackie Earle Haley? I remember him from The Bad News Bears and as Moocher in Breaking Away…thought he’d retired from acting.

  3. Jeff Harris Says:

Jackie Earle Haley just got a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination this year for Little Children. Didn’t see the movie myself, but at least the nominations prove that he can act.

To be honest, a story like this didn’t need big names in starring roles. We don’t need another Batman and Robin or Catwoman now, do we?

  4. RMC Says:

I’m gonna hold my tongue. The script will make or break this movie. I’m sure they’ll all look the part togged out in John Cassaday designs.

  5. Dave Says:

Honestly is there anyway Watchmen can be made into a decent movie?

  6. James Van Hise Says:

My only disappointment is that Gerard Butler wasn’t chosen as The Comedian, but it appears that, like 300, they’re going for unknowns in order to put as much on the screen as possible. I also question how the 12 issue nini-series can be turned into a truncated 2 hour movie.
