Comic-Con

Most of the comics industry is likely either on its way to San Diego or already there, but there are still a few Comic-Con-related items trickling in.

Marvel stamps go on sale Thursday

Newspapers across the country are running this Associated Press story about the U.S. Postal Service’s Marvel Comics stamps, which premiere tomorrow at Comic-Con. The 20-set stamp features characters such as Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine and Elektra, and classic Marvel covers.

The set commemorating DC Comics characters debuted at last year’s convention.

Focus on IDW’s Ryall … and good grub

San Diego’s CityBEAT spotlights Chris Ryall, publisher and editor-in-chief of locally based IDW Publishing. The “youthful 38-year-old” reveals that the biggest buyers of the company’s CSI comics are forty-something women.

For convention attendees, the paper also offers recommendations for good, inexpensive food in San Diego.

‘It’s not just about fans of comic books’

Variety looks at how Comic-Con has become a must-attend event for major networks and television studios.

“It’s not just about fans of comic books,” Lisa Gregorian of Warner Bros. TV Group tells the trade paper. “There are fans there of all kinds of entertainment. And these are people who communicate what they like through blogs and the Internet.”
