By the time you read this Tuesday morning, I will be heading south along the 5 from San Jose to San Diego. My wife and I decided to drive down and spend the night on Coronado Island Tuesday night before heading over to our hotel on Wednesday. After the long drive, it will be nice to breath in the sea air and enjoy the calming view of the ocean before jumping into the con.

The Process

Joe Infurnari has a really cool webcomic called The Process, and he’s made a mini-comic of chapter 1 for the show:

Another San Diego promo item I’ve created is a little mini comic of Chapter 1. At last you can really see how the pages work with each other in the spreads. I’m making it available for download or online viewing here because I’ve only made 8 of them. If enough people express an interest, I’ll look into making it an official release. At the very least, if you would like to see the Process go into print, just leave a comment as it will lend strength to my efforts to eventually find a publisher. Thanks so much. Comic Book Legal Defense Fund

The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund will be in full force at the con, raising money and educating folks on the Gordon Lee trial. Their plans include:

–A welcome party with lots of cool goodies and guests
–An auction with tons of great stuff, like art from Jim Lee, Jeff Smith, Paul Pope and more
–A Live Art Jam, featuring Jim Lee, Jeff Smith, Matt Wagner and Terry Moore

On his blog, Larry Marder talks about his contribution to the fund … Tales of the Beanworld art!

At some point in late 2005 or early 2006, I started experimenting with Beanworld drawings in hand decorated frames. They started accumulating rather quickly and so I donated a stack of them to my buddy, Charles Brownstein of the CBLDF, that he could sell to raise money for the fund. Obviously, I’m no Jim Lee or Neil Gaiman–but apparently as Charles took them around the country folks that remembered Beanworld were willing to plunk downsome of their hard earned cash and purchase one of the colorful little Beanworld thingamajigs. I assured Charles that I’d be replenishing his stack and will be stopping by the CBLDF booth to do my part for the Fund.

Remember Southland Tales, the graphic novel/movie project that involved Sarah Michelle Gellar and The Rock, among others? Director Richard Kelly has some news this weekend …

Now, about this Comic Convention in San Diego, Sparkplug will also be selling work by Bodega Distribution, Tugboat Press, La Mano 21, Pony Club Gallery, Damien Jay, Edie Fake, Aron Nels Steinke and a whole bunch of amazing self published comics art. This week Wednesday June 25th till

DEVIL’S DUE ROCKS SAN DIEGO! BOOK SIGNINGS, EXCLUSIVES, AND SPECIAL EVENTS FEATURED

Chicago, IL – July 24, 2007 – Fans, prepare to be rocked…Skeptics, converted…Devil’ s Due Publishing, Inc. (DDP) is packing its bags for Comic-Con International: San Diego (July 25 – 29). Everyone – and we mean everyone – should stop by DDP’s booth (#2415) and check out the new Xombie, Chucky, Sheena, Drafted, Troma, Family Guy, Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance Chronicles, G.I. Joe: America’s Elite, and the cult hit Hack/Slash comics and creators. Artist and creator signings, convention exclusives, comic character appearances and freebies will be featured at the booth.

Devil’s Due has a number of events planned, including:

• Artist Signings (check booth #2415 for times). Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash, Forgotten Realms, G.I. Joe, DemonWars), Josh Blaylock (DDP president, How to Self Publish Comics, G.I. Joe: Arashikage Showdown), James Farr (Xombie), Steven E. de Souza (Die Hard screen play witer, Sheena), Mark Powers (G.I.Joe: America’s Elite), Mike O’Sullivan (G.I.Joe: Special Missions), Mark Rohbinson (Storm Shadow), Chris Kirby (Lost Squad), and Andrew Dabb (Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance) will be on hand for sketches, and as always, signatures are free at the DDP booth! • Conventions Exclusives and Giveaways. G.I. Joe: America’s Elite #25 with a cover by Mike Bear (G.I.
