Civil War: It could’ve been worse.

July 24th, 2007
Author Graeme McMillan

Tom Brevoort wraps up his behind-the-scenes look at Civil War’s creation with a compilation of comments and pitches made by writers and editors as the event was being worked out. As with most of the series, what’s interesting is what didn’t make it into print:

CLOAK & DAGGER (ongoing). Along the lines of Ant-Man, Champions, etc., here is the time and place for us relaunch this duo. This time around, in a world of superhuman secrecy, they will be forced to finally assume the roles of their namesakes.

Will poor Tandy Bowen never get a break?

  1. Spencer Carnage Says:

I got a C & D pitch that will blow their Marvel mind.

  2. Matthew Craig Says:

So, what? Somebody’s going to WEAR Cloak, to shield them from the rain? And they’re going to STAB people with Dagger?

    Yyeesss…

  3. CodeGuy Says:

Uh, no. I think he’s referring to the fact that the term “cloak and dagger” refers to espionage. So they’d have to do some kind of spy work.

  4. Matthew Craig Says:

    I know. Literalism: ain’t it a stinker?

This topic’s going to off-page soon, but I’ll throw this out there (again?):

Cloak and Dagger are junkie superheroes. They got their powers from a drug overdose – and not in that “quest for human self-improvement” Hourman way. In their own way, they’re the ultimate Reaganite superheroes – NANCY Reaganites.

Is this what stands in the way of a modern revival? A MAX revival, even? Or have they already missed their chance?

(uh, yeah. No movie for Jack and Jill McCracken. Sorry)
