U.S. Borders to reshelve Tintin, too

July 18th, 2007
Author Chris Mautner

The U.S. chain of Borders book stores announced that they, like their U.K. brethren, will be reshelving Herge’s controversial Tintin story “Tintin in the Congo” to the graphic novel section in light of concerns about its depiction of African people. The Washington Post has the story, as does NPR.

I’m actually surprised the book is being published in the U.S. at all, as it’s content has pretty much prevented it from being published here (except in special collector’s editions) at all in the past.
Meanwhile, U.K. sales of “Tintin in the Congo” have soared since the story broke.

  1. Rory Root Says:

Last Gasp has had an archival edition in print in English in the US for about five years.

Before that UK or Canadian copies were available, same story with Tintin in the Land of the Soviets.

We don’t sell them to kids of course, but do make them available to all of an appropriate age.
