Brian Wood punctures the myth that being a comic writer is all quick quips and glamor:
Today was one of those days where I’m busy non-stop but not actually killing any deadlines. A lot of admin work:
- proofing final letters of DMZ #22
- tweaks to DMZ #23 script
- tweaks Northlanders #3 script
- final lettering polish to Local #10
- suppling copy for DMZ #25 solicitation
- conferring on Northlanders #1 cover
- talking about Northlanders #1 lettering styles
- getting reference photos to Riccardo
- talking details of trip to Lucca convention with Riccardo and Lorenzo
- phone interview with guy from Brooklyn newspaper.
- talking about character designs for DMZ #23And so it went.
Okay, the part about the trip to Lucca does sound pretty glamorous, I admit…
(Semi-related: Wood shuts down his Northern Boy line of t-shirts “[i]n preparation for moving house and also because of lack of spare time and general annoyance (mostly with trips to the post office)”.)

Too bad about Northern Boy, thankfully I’ve had my Great Lakes shirt for a few months…

He might need some coke to get all that done…
In all seriousness–I’m working on my first project and doing a fraction of what his list entails–I can say–that’s a lot of #$%*ing work.
I gotta go scan pages now–bye.
