Road to San Diego: Trivia questions needed, more exclusives & debuts

July 10th, 2007
Author JK Parkin

Comic-Con

I’ve divided today’s San Diego post into two different sections on debuts and events, as I’ve started to get a bunch of stuff that falls into the latter category (which is great; keep sending it). But before getting into all that, Tom Galloway is looking for a few good questions for the annual pros vs. fans trivia contest at the San Diego Comicon:

This year’s San Diego Pro/Fan Trivia will have Len Wein and Mark Waid (plus two to be named) going up against Tom Galloway, Terence Chua, David Oakes, and Hal Shipman. I’m looking for people to write questions for it, with this year’s theme being “The Multiverse”. Specifically, we’re looking for questions about stories that have characters from parallel worlds meeting up (i.e. Imaginary Stories don’t count). For the purposes of this, any substantially identical Earth counts, so Marvel’s Counter-Earth is eligible as are the DC/Marvel crossover books such as Superman vs. Spider-Man and Batman vs. Hulk even though those were fudged to appear that the characters were from the same Earth.

Email me at Tom.Galloway@gmail.com for more details about writing questions and who to send them to. Do *not* send me actual questions; since I’m playing, I’d just have to toss them out as having already been seen by me.

Debuts

–Marc Ellerby, the artist on Oni’s Love the Way You Love Me, sends word that he’ll have some cool stuff at the Oni table:

I’ll be at the Oni table with Jamie and debuting a few minis, The Venal Muse (an autobiographical conversation to the reader about the subject of muses within art and whether they can actually exist when the supposed muse lives so far away) and a collection of my Polar Opposites comic strips (starring two sarcastic penguins).

More info on his projects can be found on his website and on the Polar Opposites MySpace page.

–Jamie Rich dropped me a note about Joëlle Jones’ activities:

I was just with Joëlle Jones, who is my partner on 12 Reasons Why I Love Her and the forthcoming You Have Killed Me (and the cover of Have You Seen the Horizon Lately?). She’ll be making her first appearance at Comic Con, and she’s preparing a special self-made collection of pieces from her rather extensive sketchbooks. This will be an exclusive gathering of drawings, probably 20 or so pages, featuring random drawings from life, studies for her comic book work, and maybe some shots of iconic comic book characters. She’s made similar such books for other shows and she always sells out. (Check the sketch section of her website - http://ooglygoogly.sandwich.net/joelle/home.htm - and you’ll see why.)

She’ll be at the Oni table with me during the course of the weekend, when she’s not running to awards ceremonies (she’s up for the Russ Manning and the Friends of Lulu awards). Also, there will be a big announcement of a project she’s involved in for one of the larger companies made at the show.

–And finally, WizKids will have some new HALO-themed stuff on hand, along with their Star Wars and HeroClix games:

Halo ActionClix: WizKids will be debuting exclusive Halo 3 content as part of the debut of its Halo® ActionClix™ Collectable Miniatures Game. The Halo ActionClix game brings the incredible content of the Halo universe to players’ tabletops via the award-winning Clix miniatures game engine. Players are able to replicate the exciting multiplayer action from all three Halo games using high-quality pre-painted, plastic miniatures of Halo characters and vehicles.
StarWar PocketModels game — By merging the enjoyment of building custom decks from card collections with the fun of building miniature models of Star War vehicles, WizKids’ Star Wars PocketModel Trading Card Game (TCG) revolutionizes the collectible trading card genre by bringing card games into the third dimension. The Star Wars PocketModel TCG lets Star Wars fans enjoy a complete Star Wars experience through vehicle building, collecting and exciting gameplay that features the series’ best loved characters, vehicles and scenes from all six Star Wars movies.
HeroClix: One of WizKids most popular product lines HeroClix allows players to control the heroes and villains of the comic book universe. HeroClix stays true to comic book style. Gameplay incorporates the same strengths, weaknesses, and special abilities that the comic books feature. Heroes and villains go head-to-head in knock-out scuffles. Like in the comics, the defeated always survive to fight another day.
