Yesterday I asked comics folks to start emailing us about various items they’d be debuting at the San Diego Comicon this year. Here’s the first batch of items that fans can be on the lookout for later this month.
And this will be far from my last post on the big con before it arrives, so you still have plenty of time to let me know about any cool stuff you’ll be bringing to the con; just drop me a note.
Chris Pitzer of AdHouse Books dropped me a note about the books and prints they’ve got lined up for San Diego:
AdHouse Books at booth 2104 will have the following (hopefully!)
SDCC debuts & exclusives:
- THB: Comics from Mars #1 (Lmtd. 2,000 comic) by Paul Pope
- PULPHOPE Lmtd. HC by Paul Pope
- Process Recess 2 by James Jean
- Process Recess 2 Lmtd. HC by James Jean (very limited, first come, first served)
- Myopic Lmtd. 100 print by James Jean
- KingK Lmtd. 100 print by Paul Pope
- Act of Mercy Lmtd. 100 print by Joshua Cotter
- The Ride Home (advance) by Joey Weiser (fingers crossed)
Jamie S. Rich will have copies of a self-published short story at the con:
I’m going to have my self-published short story “Chevelu” on sale there. I’ve had it at a couple of cons and sold it to readers of my blog, but this will be the biggest venue yet. It’s features Lance from The Everlasting and Love the Way You Love, and though it’s prose, Chynna Clugston did a cover for the booklet. It sells for $3.
Per his MySpace blog, his first full-length novel from Oni, Have You Seen the Horizon Lately, will also be available at the con. You can check out the complete second chapter in .pdf format here.
Ryan Cody, who will be at the Viper Comics booth, dropped me a note about a sketchbook he’d have on hand:
The Sketchjam Blog is an online home for the sketches and illustrations for over half a dozen of talented artists and illustrators from all over the globe. This summer sees the release of the first ever Sketchjam Sketchbook collection features 52 pages of sketches by artists from all over the globe. Also included with each purchase is a free sketch by Artist Ryan Cody. Stop by the Viper Comics booth (excellent publisher of Cody’s book VILLAINS) for more information and signing times.
Artists included in Volume 1 include: Ryan Cody, a creator based out of Phoenix, AZ, whose previous work has included Viper Comics critically acclaimed “Villains”. Federico Milella is an Italian artist and animator currently working in Luxembourg. His work is frequently seen on the popular Drawing Board website, and is at the forefront of a great new wave of young Italian illustrators. Brent Schoonover is an illustrator and comic artist from Minnesota. His past work includes the best-selling “Horrorwood” from Ape Entertainment and the upcoming “Astronaut Dad” from Silent Devil. Derek Toye is an animator and artist from British Columbia who has previously worked for Mainframe Entertainment as a character designer. Finally, Daryl Walker is a UK based artist that is best known for his wonderfully stylistic versions of classic film and music icons.
SLG Publishing’s Jennifer de Guzman lists some of the books they plan to have at the show:
Among the books recently sent to the printer in the expectation of having them for Comic-Con International in San Diego was Peter the Pirate Squid by Roman Dirge and Steven Daily. (Other books in this sanity-challenging assault on the printing professionals at Imprimerie Lebonfon were Gargoyles #5, Tron #4, Jellyfist, Lenore #13, Nightmares and Fairy Tales #20 and The Weirdly World of Strange Eggs. Whistles Volume One: The Starlight Calliope went to a printer in China some weeks ago.)
