Minnie Driver to voice Lara Croft in GameTap animated series

Minnie Driver will provide the voice for Lara Croft in GameTap.com’s upcoming Tomb Raider animated series.

The Darkness video game banned in Singapore

The website Gameaxis.com is reporting that the video game based on the Top Cow comic series The Darkness has been banned in Singapore due to excessive violence:

It’s official now, coming straight from the folks from New Era - the distributor responsible for bringing in games from 2K. The Darkness is officially banned in Singapore for what the local censorship have dubbed excessive violence. So it’s another 2K title that bites the dust in Singapore, since we can forget EVER about seeing GTA IV here. Oh, and the latest rumor is that Bioshock might be banned here as well for the same reason that the former 2 games won’t ever be sold here too.

The German version of the game is also having some problems getting past the censors:

Nazi symbols, a finishing move and several mechanics relating to “Darklings” have had to be removed in order to satisfy the board’s demands. The finishing move - a CGI sequence showing a human heart being ripped out - must be replaced by a yellowish-green-fog “soul absorption” instead.

Eurogamer spoke with Simpsons creator Matt Groening about his appearance in the upcoming Simpsons Movie video game tie-in:

“Well the video game is mainly written by great writers, Matt Selman and Matt Warburton - I mean, you can just tell. Great, right? They did a send-up of videogames. It’s a videogame about videogames; and I’m in the videogame.

“I’m a boss that you have to fight at the end of the game. It was really fun recording a million ways of dying, going ‘UGGH, ARGGH, EUURGH!’”

And in addition to 7-Eleven, 20th Century Fox has inked promotional deals for the movie with Vans shoes and JetBlue.

Vans will present specially designed shoes from 12 artists including David Flores, Futura, Gary Panter, Geoff McFetridge, KAWS, Mr. Cartoon, Neckface, Sam Messer, Stash, Taka Hayashi, Todd James and Tony Munoz. They will be available on July 14.

Check out the JetBlue site to see how the Simpsons have taken over, including Mr. Burns writing the CEO blog.

I can imagine a planeload of people sitting out on the tarmac for eight hours, and Mr. Burns tapping his fingers together and saying “Excellent.” I wonder if that’s the image they were going for?

You know, Minnie Driver has been headlining all the articles about the new Tomb Raider cartoon… I figured around here the noteworthy bits would be the contributions of Jim Lee and Warren Ellis!
