If Raimi does SM4, he wants the Sinister Six

Spider-Man

In the “first post-’Spidey 3′ interview,” MTV talks to Sam Raimi about the possibilities of helming a fourth Spider-Man flick. “Sony Pictures is going to be making many more ‘Spider-Man’ pictures,” Raimi says in the interview. “I just don’t know what [my] future holds yet.”

But if he were to make a fourth Spider-man film, here’s what he would want:

…if this tangled web does still involve the filmmaker, Raimi has been busy brainstorming about the villains he’d like to get into the next flick. “I would love to see Electro, Vulture, maybe the Sinister Six as a team,” he said.

Those three possibilities wouldn’t necessarily cancel each other out. Since both were founding members of the Six, the Soviet supervillain and high-flying supergenius could appear in the next flick, be teamed with a returning Doctor Octopus and Sandman and form a supergroup to also introduce Mysterio and Kraven the Hunter.

Whether that story line works out or not, Raimi hopes to finally reward Dylan Baker’s patience with a villainous payoff similar to what Franco enjoyed in “3.” “I love Dylan Baker as a person, and I really like the character he is developing,” the filmmaker said of Dr. Curt Connors, Parker’s one-armed, screen-time-challenged professor in the first three flicks.

“The Lizard is probably one of my favorite characters,” he said of the baddie Connors eventually became in the comics. (He joined the Sinister Six when they became the Sinister Twelve, by the way.) “But ['Spider-Man 4'] will probably have to start with the central journey of the main character to arrive at the proper villain.”

I think MTV has their super-villains mixed up. Since when is Elektro Soviet?

If we learned nothing else from Spider-Man 3 its that Raimi has to be the one who picks the super-villain(s).

  2. Mike Thompson Says:

One villain PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!! Not six. Spider-Man 3 was bad enough with three (4 if you count Emo Parker). No one got enough screen-time or development. Spidey 1 and 2 were successful because of one antagonist. I’d vote for the Lizard ONLY. Geez, Raimi and Columbia, get a clue.

  3. Goldenboy Says:

    “Since when is Elektro Soviet?”

Spider-Man 90’s cartoon – Probably where they got their info from.

I doubt Sinister Six will happen though. Sandman and Doc Ock have no reason to fight Spidey (not to mention one of them’s dead).

6 brand new villains without a motive to fight Spidey? I doubt it.

  4. dj4our Says:

HJow bout JUST The Lizard and MAYBE Kraven. Sigh. I just don’t get the need for all the cramming! We all know how many issues of Spider-Man came out before Sinister Six came to be. Sigh.

  5. Joel Kelly Says:

How bout somebody else besides Raimi to do #4? I thought SM3 was tired and full of missteps. I think it might be time for some new blood to tell the story.

  6. Squashua Says:

Dylan Baker, Shmylan Baker; Lizard, Shmizard.

He’s been patient, but he can wait.

There’s another actor that’s been in these who is a tad more deserving of a final “villain reveal”, and I’m not talking Stan “The Man” Lee.

I’m referring to Bruce “The Chin” Campbell, who can be a villain as a NATURAL EVOLUTION of his character:

    Spider-Man 1: Announcer.
    Spider-Man 2: Theatre Usher
    Spider-Man 3: Overcooked “Frohnch” Maître’De; obviously “acting”.
    Spider-Man 4: MYSTERIO

    Think about it.

  7. Bill Reed Says:

Save the Sinister Six for the sixth one they want to make.

    Give me Lizard and/or Vulture.

  8. Matt M. Says:

But if there’s only one villain, they won’t be able to make as many toys! Oh the humanity! Won’t somebody please think of the merchandisers!?

  9. Ian Says:

Normally that would be true but the toys aren’t restricted by the movies anymore apparently. See the current Lizard, Kraven and Scorpion toys on the shelves.

You could do six characters if they really wanted but only the ring leader would be able to have any sort of character to him. If they try to make the other 5 any more than thugs, it would be waaaay bloated.

  10. Cole Moore Odell Says:

    J. Jonah Jameson piloting the Spider Slayer robot. Now *that’s* value for your entertainment dollar.

  11. Zeitgeist Says:

“I doubt Sinister Six will happen though. Sandman and Doc Ock have no reason to fight Spidey (not to mention one of them’s dead).”

We didnt actually see Doctor Octopus die, it was just implied

  12. Nimbus Says:

We didnt actually see Doctor Octopus die, it was just implied

And since when has being apparently dead stopped anyone coming back in the comics?

Am I the only one to think the Sinister Six would be cool? Not all of the six villains have to have their origin revealed in the film.
