Con-tastic Voyage, Day 1

June 16th, 2007
Author JK Parkin

HeroesCon’s happening down in Charlotte and WizardWorld’s occurring up in Philly, and really, there’s no need to know about any of the announcements beyond this right here, from Marvel.com:

Yep, that explains everything.

For more Bendis madness, Wizard also has a video interview with him on their site.

In other news coming out of both cons …

Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane apparently isn’t going anywhere even though Sean McKeever left for DC, as it was announced that Terry Moore will be taking over the title. ” I liked the fact that there’s a title in the Spider-Man family that is approachable for new readers, and is accessible to younger kids and to girls,” he told Newsarama’s Vaneta Rogers. “I think some of the more gritty, mainstream titles may be off-putting to new readers and parents of young teens. You need something like this to complete the line.”

–Marvel also released details on a new Angel mini-series and Marvel Comics Presents. “Marvel Comics Presents is going to be the premiere place for new stories starring fan-favorite characters that haven’t got their own series at the moment,” said the book’s co-editor John Barber, “and for off-beat, unusual stories about characters that do.” One of the writers tapped for MCP is Rich Koslowski, creator of the wonderful Three Fingers and The King. He’s also got two other projects on their way out, The List and BB Wolf & The 3 L.P.s. Sounds like he’s going to be busy.

Characters that will be featured in MCP include Hellcat (by Stuart & Kathryn Immonen), Taskmaster, Namor, Stingray, Man-Thing and the Outlaw Kid. Creators involved in the anthology include B. Clay Moore, Ed McGuinness, Joshua Hale Fialkov and Stuart Moore, among others.

–On the DC side, there’s good news for Flash fans, as Mark Waid will return to the character. Flash: The Fastest Man Alive #13 is the last issue of the current series, while Waid will start writing the book with Flash #231 … which yeah, means they’re returning to the old numbering. Daniel Acuna will draw the series. A special called All Flash #1 is due this summer, also written by Waid. (Note: Updated to reflect that the Flash special, per Didio, is due in July and Waid’s first regular issue is due in August).

My buddy Tom Bondurant has some theories about what’s going on that I expect he’ll post sometime this weekend, which are probably better than my half-baked theories (Flash is a skrull!)…
