We may be that sleazy, but we’re not saying…

First off, if you haven’t read this week’s New Avengers yet and somehow have also managed to avoid all the spoilers about the book? Don’t read any further.

For everyone else – Tom Brevoort makes me nervous with his self-awareness over at Wizard:

It would be probably the cheapest and sleaziest thing that we could do to suddenly say, “Hey, the Tony Stark that was in Civil War was a Skrull and that’s why he did all of those things.”

[Wizard:] So are you saying that you’re beyond sleaze at Marvel?

BREEVORT: No, I’m just saying that would be one of the sleaziest things that we could do. I’m not saying that we’re not that sleazy. I’m just saying that maybe the Vegas odds should not be as strong on that as everyone who will either want to believe that or who will fear that we go that route [thinks].

    Nice ‘n sleazy
    Nice ‘n’ sleazy does it…

  2. Ct Says:

No, of course, they are not that sleazy to have Tony Stark be a skrull.

Steve Rogers on the other hand…

  3. Jim Says:

Wait … does that mean Tony Stark is a Skrull, or that Tony Stark isn’t a Skrull?

Can someone explain Vegas odds to me?

  4. Lisa Fortuner Says:

First, that is not only not one of the sleaziest things you could do at Marvel, its not even one of the sleaziest things you’ve done at Marvel in the past month.

Second, I sincerely hope you are at least doing the sleazy thing here because I want to be able to enjoy the Iron Man movie.

  5. Live Free or Dan Coyle Says:

    I’m so confused!

  6. caleb Says:

Wait…what? Is it a reflection on the nature of the company you work for, or the person you’re talking to when you answer the question “Does that mean you’re beyond sleave at [your company]” and the answer is anything other than “Sleazy? No, of course we’re not sleazy at [my company].”

  7. CodeGuy Says:

It’s simple. He’s saying that they’re not ruling out the posibility of Tony Stark being a Skrull, but it isn’t likely. That’s all.

  8. DeTroyes Says:

And people bashed DC for Superboy Prime punches…

  9. CodeGuy Says:

Actually, I’d say that punching the universe and changing history is still a lot dumber than invaders in disguise.

  10. Tuckenie (Chris Tucker) Says:

    Here let me translate:

Of course he’s not a skrull! How dumb does everyone think we are? Yeah we’re just gonna ruin the ost interesting story arc the character has ever gone through just to mess with people… I mean why do that when Maria Hill and that parent lady in Civil War are such better candidates and it’ll be so much better when we get to see the look on Tony’s face when he finds out he setup his friend’s death to prepare a skrull invasion?!

  11. Spot 1980 Says:

Revealing that the Tony Stark in Civil War was a Skrull: Pure Sleaze.

Using Civil War to really turn a heroic character in a fascist: Pure Class.
