Thundercats

Although initial reports said that the just-announced Thundercats movie would be live-action, Warner Bros. has clarified that it is being computer animated — something that should calm the fears of anyone envisioning a Cats-style take on Lion-O and company.

Everything else seems to be accurate, though: Fledgling screenwriter Paul Sopocy is penning an origin story focusing on Lion-O’s coming of age as leader of the group of feline humanoids.

The Thundercats animated TV series, from Rankin/Bass Studios, debuted in 1985, and has inspired comic books published by Marvel in the 1980s and, more recently, by DC/Wildstorm. Warner Bros. has owned the rights to Thundercats since 1989, when it purchased Telepictures Corp.
