The Portland (Ore.) Art Center will host an exhibit of Basil Wolverton’s artwork starting today and running through June 30. Per the Columbian, Basil’s son Monte will be on hand to talk about his dad’s work later in the month:

Two books about Wolverton’s work are expected to be published within the next year: “The Original Art of Basil Wolverton: From the Collection of Glenn Bray” and “The Wolverton Bible,” featuring more than 500 of his religious illustrations as presented by his son, Monte Wolverton, who also is a professional illustrator. Among their career highlights, the Wolvertons are the only father-son combination to draw for MAD Magazine.

Monte, a syndicated political cartoonist who now lives in California, has had his work published in about 900 magazines and newspapers, including regular appearances in The Columbian.

Besides the unprecedented exhibition of Basil’s work this month, several comic book industry authorities will take part in a panel discussion about the Vancouver native as part of the inaugural Platform International Animation Festival, June 25 through June 30 throughout downtown Portland. That Wolverton panel, featuring the Portland Art Center exhibition’s curator, Kenny Scharf, as well as Monte Wolverton, will be offered from 4:30 to 6 p.m. June 29 in the Dolores Winningstad Theatre.

You can see more of both Monte and Basil’s work over at Wolvertoon.com.
