I love come across obscure stuff like this. The ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive has been posting Gene Byrnes’ 1950 book The Complete Guide to Cartooning on their Web site. The book, which allegedly taught Ralph Bakashi how to draw, features stunning work by such noterieties as Alex Raymond, Milton Caniff, Al Capp, Hal Foster and many more. Part One is here. Part Two is here. Go check it out.

Since when does Clark Kent smoke pipes and brandish revolvers?

It’s awesome that he smokes his pipe while doing everything.

It only would have been better if he’d been smoking the pipe while boxing.
