UDON Entertainment announces manhwa line

May 29th, 2007
Author Kevin Melrose

Magical JxR, Vol. 1

UDON Entertainment has announced it’s partnering with Korean publisher Haksan to release a line of manhwa in North America called, appropriately enough, Korean Manhwa.

Haksan is the publisher of such titles as Moon Boy, Peppermint and The Queen’s Knight.

UDON’s Korean Manhwa line is set to launch in October with the romantic comedy Star Project Chiro, Vol. 1, followed in November by the fantasy adventure Dorothy of Oz, Vol. 1, and in December by another (I think) fantasy adventure, Magical JxR, Vol. 1.

The full press release and title descriptions can be found at the link.

I think it’s somewhat funny, I (a big manga fan) have the same relation to manhwa that many US-comics-only fans have to manga: I just don’t care about it no matter how many times people tell me that there is really good stuff out there.

Now I have to ask: Why is that?

Never found anything in in manhwa I was really intrested in. I know there probably is a some great manhwa but with all the great comics & manga I still have to read I haven’t found the time or interest to dive deep into manhwa.

I’m happy to see more manhwa coming over as there’s been series I’ve been curious about and wouldn’t mind being actually able to read.

Kine SAMA’s comics always thus gorgeous!!
But I think Magical JxR more fit kids as the story is too poor~~
Compare with Korea of cartoon, still compare cartoon of liking better Japan.

    oRZ! Absolute being, save me.
    My poor English~~

Actually, I don’t think Magical JXR has a poor story. The nature of the comic publisher Magical JXR is published under is geared towards little girls… so yes, the story theme may come out as childish. But the story is put together well enough to be enjoyable even to adults. Combined with her excellent art work, I would argue it’s worth a look. The author is a new comic author but she has years of experience in doujin and her use of tones and artwork is just simply amazing.
