Addams Family moves to Broadway

May 23rd, 2007

They’re creepy, they’re kooky but apparently they’re nowhere near ooky enough to keep them off of the stage:

“The Addams Family,” a cartoon about an eccentric family that was made into a hit movie in 1991, is coming to Broadway as a musical.

The producers said “The Addams Family” musical was scheduled for the 2009-10 Broadway season. The libretto will be written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, writers of the 2006 Tony Award-winning musical “Jersey Boys.”

More news on the upcoming musical, as well as the history of Addams’ cartoon characters, can be found here, here and here. Apparently the musical will be directed by Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch, best known for the macabre “Shockheaded Peter.” No word on if there will be a big finger-snapping number.

In related news, Morticia Addams took the top MILF spot by only four votes. I’m sure Addams would be proud.
