The CW and FOX both announce their fall schedules today, following on the heels of ABC, CBS and NBC. I’ll post about FOX’s schedule once it is out.
The CW, meanwhile, unsurprisingly keeps their Thursday night line-up of Smallville and Supernatural intact, but canned Veronica Mars. Bastards. I liked the idea of jumping four years into the future and featuring Veronica in the FBI, but I guess the network didn’t.
USA Today reports on their new shows:
•Gossip Girl, a teen soap about rich Manhattan teens as told through the eyes of a secret blogger, based on a book series and created by Josh Schwartz (The OC).
•The Reaper, a comedic drama about a slacker who becomes a bounty hunter for the devil.
•Life Is Wild, a drama about a veterinarian who moves his family to a South African game reserve.
•Aliens in America, a comedy about a small-town family that hosts a Muslim exchange student.
They’ve also got a bunch of new reality shows lined up for me not to care about.

Now i am confused, i was under the impression that the CW simply didnt announce it for their fall schedule but didnt mention anything about it being cancelled, leaving open the chance for it to return next year…

After reading further i am even more confused, what Rob Thomas says :
“We could still be a midseason replacement. We’ve known for a couple of weeks that they were thinking of us in terms of midseason. We don’t know when we’ll hear something definite.
“I’ve known Kristen did the disembodied-voice work on Gossip Girl for quite some time. Totally cool with me.
“I was approached by Viva Laughlin, but I really want to concentrate on either Veronica Mars or future development.”
This may just be wishful thinking but i cant stand the thought of Veronica Mars ending

what a sad sad world we live in when The Search for the Next Pussycat Doll is renewed and something like Farmer wants a wife is picked up and Veronica Mars goes the way of the dinosaur…I really really hate the CW today

Why hate on the CW? They gave Veronica Mars 3 years to catch on, including a decent ad campaign and a relatively decent timeslot. It (unfortunately) didn’t get the ratings it needed to go for a fourth year.
Personally, I’m more irritated by all of the people who would rather WATCH the search for the next Pussycat Doll instead of Veronica Mars. And I’m still hoping for a midseason replacement slot when one of their new dramas inevitably tanks.

The reports I’ve seen online from the Associated Press and other major news outlets say it has been canceled, but I would love to find out they are wrong.
They are looking at One Tree Hill coming back at mid-season with, ironically, a four-year jump in the storyline … but that’s the only mention I could find of CW’s mid-season plans.

Fuck.

Lyle Masaki just up a few links about Veronica Mars for next season, including word from Rob Thomas:

Prognosis not good. Rob Thomas says his writing staff has already been hired off to other projects, they don’t have him in a deal for anything right now, and Kristen Bell moves on in a few weeks as well.

CW is making a huge mistake. I’m a thirty-something who loves this show. You couldn’t pay me to watch the Pussycat dolls–how pathetic that CW has renewed that show but not Veronica. I, too, want to find out how she does at the FBI!

Jer…:)…
I hate on the CW because Veronica would have done a lot better without the network mandates about upping the drama and losing the mysteries…instead of watching an awesome mystery unfold over a season with some great character drama within…we’re being forced to watch a derivitive and frustrating Gilmore/Dawsons-mystery hybrid that completely ignores and loses everything that was great about the show to begin with…
I still love the show…and it has it’s moments still…but while trying to grab a fanbase they neglected their current one…and the show floundered under the restrictions…it’s no wonder it’s getting canceled…the network couldn’t decide what it wanted it to be….
and for the record Veronica was a UPN show…I fear the CW(more WB) head honchos…were the ones who weren’t willing to see the see the show continue along it’s critically praised and impressive track…

I can’t say I’m surprised or angry about Veronica’s cancellation. It simply wasn’t the quality show that it was during season one. What was once great was merely “okay” this season and not so worthy of critical praise. Combine that with basement ratings, and how can you blame the network for cancelling? The CW has to make money. How can ad space be sold? It’s time that the show was put out of its misery. The writers are gone. Dawn Ostroff needs to let go and say out loud, “It’s cancelled. It’s not coming back as a midseason replacement.”
Am I sad? A little. Angry? Not at all. Watching Logan deteriorate as a character so that relationship angst can be focused on was a huge turnoff.

CW: Contempt for Women?
May 17th, 2007 at 7:25 pm
Contempt for Women how exactly?
Also, I don’t know if I can get used to life without Veronica Mars! The Shield only has one season left, too, and those were the two best shows on tv.

Ugh! How can the CW do that? How can it drop one of the best shows ever on TV? I know how it can, b/c of popularity. Despite being so well-written and having a great cast, as well as a wonderful backdrop in the city of San Diego, the show never got the following it warranted and the networks wanted. Well, if it really never comes back, I suppose it will forever be a cult favorite, like “Twin Peaks”. Now, however, we can all buy the seasons on DVD and let our dollars do the talking. I remain ever loyal, Veronica.

The solution is, they need to bring back Veronica as the show was ORIGNALLY (think season 1). (MYSTERIES are better than sex n’ drama). A good mystery that is Veronica-focused, and the rest will follow.

okay, so this is bullshit. i’m so mad at the cw. first, they cancelled buffy, then angel, then gilmore girls, now veronica mars, and now, one tree hill isn’t coming back until midseason, and it’s 4 years in the future. that’s too much to miss at this critical point in the series. this is just shitty. i don’t even know if i’m gonna watch the cw this year, except for one tree hill!!!
