Marvel and Lionsgate Home Entertainment have launched the website for the Doctor Strange direct-to-DVD animated feature. The minisite, located at Marvel.com, is barebones right now, with just the trailer, countdown clock and links to character biographies. However, there’s promise of blogs, downloads and other features.
Doctor Strange will be released Aug. 14.

I’ve been very disappointed by all of the Marvel Direct-to-DVD movies so far. Iron Man looked nice, but had some really silly elements to it. (China is just going to let some American business bring a small military force into their country? I don’t think so.) The dialogue in both Avengers movies was so bad. I had trouble watching the first one. I’d taped the second one off of Cartoon Network. I got about a half an hour into it, but got pulled away for something else. When I was cleaning my harddrive, I realized that I just didn’t have any desire to see the rest of the movie, so I ended up deleting it.
Sadly, this trailer did nothing to interest me. Oh, well. Looking forward to the DC projects coming up.

The first Avengers was pretty decent in my opinion, but the second one felt like a rerun. I was very disappointed in Iron Man. All this build-up for the Mandarin as this terrible evil force and he doesn’t even really show up, just takes over some woman and gets defeated in 5 minutes.

The trailer suggests they’ve taken everything unique about Dr Strange and dumped it in order to make a generic superhero action tale. If that turns out to be the case, it’s a real shame.

I say fuck it. These are direct to dvd cartoons coming from the US. Just enjoy the loud noises, pretty colors, and big explosions. Expecting some sort of animated masterpiece is kind of silly.

Once again, I’m disappointed. They had the chance to make some really kickass movies and they threw it away. I didn’t expect masterpieces but I did expect some decent-to-good movies. The result is enjoyable only because I love those characters and I have a really high tolerance for bad-to mediocre stuff. My expectations are pretty low now and it’ll probably work better that way.
