Spielberg, Jackson team for Tintin film
Per Variety, Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson are teaming to direct and produce three features based on the Belgian comic-strip hero Tintin for DreamWorks. The movies will be produced in full digital 3-D using performance capture technology.
“Herge’s characters have been reborn as living beings, expressing emotion and a soul which goes far beyond anything we’ve seen to date with computer animated characters,” Spielberg said.
“We want Tintin’s adventures to have the reality of a live-action film, and yet Peter and I felt that shooting them in a traditional live-action format would simply not honor the distinctive look of the characters and world that Herge created,” Spielberg continued.
Before starting on the films, Spielberg will film the fourth Indiana Jones movie this fall, while Jackson will shoot Lovely Bones, based on the novel by Alice Sebold.
Dark Horse in film pact with Hyde Park
Variety also reports that Dark Horse has entered into an agreement with Hyde Park Entertainment to produce “medium budget” films based on Dark Horse’s comics, starting with The Blackburne Covenant by Fabian Nicieza and Stefano Raffaele.
Hyde Park has produced a bunch of films I haven’t seen, including Premonition, Death Sentence and Asylum.
Dark Knight teaser site
Warner Bros. has launched a teaser site for the next Batman film, the Dark Knight. There isn’t a lot there yet, but keep an eye on it. Via MMM.

I just threw up in my mouth a little.

I can’t help but feel like Peter Jackson should be doing some better. I mean, I’ve never read any Tin-Tin comic strips, but boy did I hate the HBO animated series when I was growing up.

Tintin? Spielberg and Jackson?!?!?!
…wtf.

Ye Olde Iowa,
How can there be anything better than Tin Tin? He predates King Kong, sold 200 million copies of his books, been translated into more languages than Lord of the Rings, and pioneered a new style of comic art. But I agree, this is weird news.

I don’t won’t those hacks anywhere near Tin Tin. If movies are going to be made, then they should be classic 2D animation and rated PG 13.

Tres cool. :)Tintin deserves the best treatment.

“Dark Horse in film pact with Hyde Park”
This could be pretty cool. I hope it works out.

This bodes well since its being made entirely on the computer and since 2 powerhouse directors like Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg are involved. I CANNOT WAIT!

Ah no.
Tintin in 3D?
You know this is going to suck!
I wonder how much they’re going to change the storylines.
Ugh

congrats to Jackson & Speilberg! both great director/producers ..i have to laugh at newe line for losing Jackson over the dummest of reasons. hey speilberg’s gain and more power to jacko.
so we dont get jacko doing LOTR prequels, but we get rintintin. hey Im on board, but its a shame about the prequel(s). ew line has their heads royally up their arses.

Bob Shaye Looks Like Even Bigger Idiot…
So DreamWorks (i.e. Stacey Snider and Steven Spielberg, specifically) has usurped New Line and is in the Peter Jackson business in a big way now by anteing up for a trilogy of beloved kid fare Tintin, plus Lovely Bones. Just for lousing up his studio’s relationship with Mr. Lord Of The Rings and losing his King Kong talent is why Time Warner should kick to the curb Mr. Lord of the Rants when Shaye’s contract is up in 2008.

Good news! And everybody who’s dissing Tintin, get your head out of your superhero and manga books (which I both like), and enjoy diversity now and then.

this is like, the best movie news of this century. I was unsure of ANY treatment Tintin is gonna get since the movie rumors started years ago, but this announcement alone just squashed any doubts I had.
the franchise is in good hands, the best ones in the industry. finally, the best comic book series ever will get the best treatment by the best people.

Ha!
Thanks for remembering Tintin’s Belgian.
(those damn french always stealing out thunder!)
I’d have to see the 3D before commenting on that, but I feel this could be a fun project. Some of that Indiana Jones flair in there and this should be a winner!
Hope to find out more soon

Spielberg has confessed that Indiana Jones was based on Tintin
So i bet there is going to be a Indiana jones flair

Tintin is incredible, and I believe he’s in good hands. Looking way forward to this.

Interesting news. I hope the 3D is good, since it will make or break the movies!
And I cast my vote for Brian Blessed to voice Captain Haddock!
Best,
Hunter (Pedro Bouça)

Wow, this is AWESOME news! I couldn’t be happier about this combo for making an animated movie with Tintin.
To all the haters: What the heck is the MATTER with you??
May 20th, 2007 at 12:26 pm
Oh I agree that Brian Blessed would make a great Captain Haddock!
I love Tintin but I don’t like the idea of it being 3D
