Graeme posted earlier today about Tim Leong’s Comic Foundry magazine being rejected by Diamond … below is a video appeal by Tim for support:
In the interest of transparency, I should mention that I contributed a few short “comics to watch out for” blurbs to the first issue … so hearing it was rejected by Diamond really sucks.
Tim is asking folks to email Diamond directly and ask them to carry the book.

I could be wrong but it seems like there is more to the story here.
I would like to hear Diamond’s side to this story as well before I form a true opinion.

Diamond’s side of the story:
I called Diamond for more clarification and spoke with Tim Huckelbery, who let me know the news in the first place. He said, among other things, “When I was looking though it and reading a magazine of that type, which is about comics, which has lots of images of comics characters, that is looking to be timely and topical, I was expecting color. That, just for me, is how my brain is wired.”
Diamond rejects material all the time, often for reasons far more vague than what they told Tim. To their credit, they’ve often reconsidered rejections when pressue is put on them, and demand for the rejected material can be shown.

Dorian,
I watched the video. But I would rather hear it from the horses mouth rather than quoted by someone with an opposing view. A soundbite or quote can be molded or interpreted many ways without hearing the WHOLE story. Hence I would like to hear Diamond’s views on the subject from Diamond themselves. Know what I mean?

Dear Dorian
please learn the difference between one party’s side of the story and that party’s side as described by the other party. It isn’t hard, I know you can do it.
In the present case, the crucuial bit might be the “among other things” stuff.
Also, isn’t this by the same fool who was roundly mocked last fall for his videocast trying to demonstrate how bad Wizard magazine is? (It is, but his critique was even worse.)

is he gonna cry again?

Tim,
Put a PDF sample issue online and let the people decide if you are worth supporting and stop being such a whiner.

Add to that: Who’s going support your magazine sight unseen?

There’s discussing an issue intelligently, and then there’s markus and tooter.
An interesting idea: Contact Diamond yourself and find out their side of the story.

Could a certain full-color superspandex mag with a grudge be leaning on Diamond not to carry Tim’s magazine?
As a firm believer in the Marvel/DC/Image /Diamond conspiracy, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Anonymous: There are several issues of Comic Foundry already available for viewing online, from its days as a Web magazine.
Also, I routinely support products I haven’t seen — it’s called preodering.
