Not one but a two-fer of interviews catching up with Silver Age cartoonist Frank Springer, from the Boston Globe and Lincoln County News, who got his start as an assistant to George Wunder (the successor Milton Caniff) on Terry and the Pirates from 1955-60, before jumping to Dell Comics, and finally to Marvel Comics, with a cup of coffee in between with DC.
Nowadays, the retired Springer lives in Damariscotta, Maine, where he keeps busy perfecting his oil painting techniques. Hit the Lincoln County News link and you’ll see one his really beautiful oil painting of former Bosox great Ted Williams.
My first fond memory of Springer may be similar to other old fogeys among us: His great work on the original and short-lived Secret Six series for DC.
