Cecil Castellucci keeps telling me I need to write a novel, specifically a YA novel. I’ve always thought without thinking too much about it that I would eventually write a novel. In theory I know I am up to the challenge, but in reality its difficult to know how to start. I’ve written thousands of published pages, but consider: most of the words I’ve written are never read by anyone other than my editors and artists. It’s a strange and daunting thing, thinking about writing prose. And YA? I’ve said before that I’ve written YA without realizing it when I wrote Demo, and certainly the community of libraries has embraced it as such. Local will no doubt be received similarly when its collected. So I’ll give it a shot, with a title I’ve been dying to use for a very long time: ANTHEM.
