Since The Comics Journal tackled the selection of the Eisner Awards nominees and judges a few years ago (unfortunately, no classic link here), it was probably long overdue for someone else take a look at the process for themselves.
With that in mind, you’ll find this take on this year’s selection process from 2007 Eisner judge Jeff VanderMeer for Bookslut, featuring chats with awards admininstrator Jackie Estrada and fellow judges Whitney Matheson of USA Today, San Francisco retailer James Sime, Manga expert and librarian Robin Brenner and comics writer Chris Reilly, very interesting, a little scary (an unplanned trip to the ER) and pretty even-handed, especially for an insider.
Folks, even though this judging expedition is in San Diego, by all accounts, it’s all work from start to finish…
