Expendable One

Per the The Hollywood Reporter, Intrepid Pictures will bring Viper Comics’ Expendable One graphic novel to the big screen.

I interviewed Jason Burns, the book’s writer/co-creator, last March for The Great Curve before it came out, where I asked him what the book was about:

“We’re putting the graphic back in graphic novel with this one, that’s for sure. The story centers on an average bloke named Twigs Dupree who winds up with the gift of immortality … and not just the living forever kind. You can literally do whatever you want to him and he’ll just keep on keeping on. Because of his new powers, Twigs decides to play hero, stopping local robberies and things like that, but when a serial killer whom some believe to be a werewolf shows up in town, Twigs is recruited by the sexy Agent Armstrong to help bring him down. And yes, there is a lot of blood and gore, but I like to think it’s handled with some fun attached.”

Shane Kuhn and Brendan Cowles will write the screenplay. Kuhn and Cowles are currently writing the video game-inspired action film Twitch.

That’s just the kind of idea I love seeing in comics or movies. It’s simple and effective and beggging to be done with all kinds of cool, wonderful violence. I’m very pleased to read this. :) :) :)
