Watch the magic of Photoshop coloring your comics

May 2nd, 2007

Just stumbled onto this groovy trio of recently posted YouTube videos — none longer than four minutes — lensing the awesome coloring work via Photoshop by Steve Hamaker on Jeff Smith’s Shazam series for DC Comics and the full-color Scholastic redo of Bone, using Photoshop on a Wacom Cintiq tablet. Even cooler, the videos come with their own soundtracks!

Here’s links to the three shorts I’ve found so far. The best I’ve watched is the shortest one with Hamaker coloring Talky Tawny, with some awesome background music (please help me find out what group or album the background music comes from!).

Makes me wish I’d learned how to use more than the 3 percent I needed to know about Photoshop back in my past print magazine life…

That’s the Dandy Warhols. It’s on the Dandy Warhols Come Down album, which is great.

Ow! Ow! Stop twisting my arm already! I’m off to Circuit City to get a tablet (big bully).

That was interesting. I’ve never seen the comics getting colored before.
