There have been so many shocks and surprises and the internet just can’t be broken anymore. It’s become tougher, like when you tear a phone book into pieces and eventually it just won’t rip anymore. How do you tell who’s who and what’s whast in this new world out there? Don’t worry. I’m here to comfort and guide. Welcome to the world outside B@N. Welcome to Meanwhile….
On with the links…
Dorian drops some of his blogging wisdom on us this week with Lessons the Internet Has Taught Me. My favorite?
I only read your blog to forward links to posts to my friends. And then we make fun of you. Because that’s all your blog is good for.

Are you looking for thoughts on the last issue of 52? Douglas Wolk has been following 52 all along. He also examines how 52 will change any future weekly event comics.
Future weeklies/events need to be much more tightly plotted, start to finish, before the first issue starts rolling. 52, from what I gather, seems to have drifted off in some unexpected directions and then not gotten around to some potentially cool stuff it was going to include (and nine major characters was way too many). The pacing of its second act, in particular, was pretty slack. (Admittedly, the “one week per issue” gimmick kneecapped its capacity for cliffhangers.) Paul Dini has supposedly written a 100-page-plus “bible” for how Countdown and the DCU around it will operate for the next year; that’s a good sign.
I wonder if he’s going to do a Countdown blog?
For another take on 52, check out Jog’s review of the most recent issue.

Some people don’t get Friday Night Fights? You post a picture of someone fighting on a Friday. That’s all there is to it. It’s simple. Bully really takes the idea and makes it his own though.

Greetings, ocean dwellers, and welcome to the Sub Diego Sheraton for this afternoon’s seminar: Law for Atlanteans! I’m your guest speaker, Aquaman. Thanks for coming today. In today’s hectic submerged world, it’s more important than ever to understand the workings of the modern courts and the law, and to prepare yourself for every eventuality in unexpected circumstances where may find yourself needing to understand the law, no matter which side of it you’re on.

I miss covers like these. Thanks Bully.

Could this be the end of the ISB?
Hello again, folks, and welcome to what may well be the last post you read on this blog.
Say it ain’t so Chris!

Chris Butcher points out that UDON may be moving up in the world.
It’s pretty rare that a licensor of Japanese material is then asked to go and work on the property for the owners, particularly in Japan. I get the sense that licensed books are sort of “Free Money” and it’s really not best to think about them too hard (which would explain some of the many, many atrocious licensed books). But yeah, doing an adaptation so good that it ends up being the basis for an anniversary edition worldwide? AND it’s a video game license that’s up there with Mario, Pac-Man, and Sonic? Kudos, gents.

Scipio really dislikes the new Aquaman as evidenced by his Aquamanifesto.

Remember when Spider-Man was actually funny and not just so annoying you wished Thor would toss him into the sun? I sure do. I miss 70s comic books.
Me too, Sleestak.

Thanks, NeilAlien, for starting up LOLSupers. Just what we need.

So – let me get this straight. You’re going to take the X-Men, Marvel’s flagship title, and totally dismantle it? You’re going to have the X-Men die on national television so that the whole world thinks they’re dead? Move to the Australian outback? Have the team slowly disnitegrate as they are pulled apart by both external menaces and internal pressures? Even though the world already thinks they’re all dead, kill them again, giving them amnesia this time so that not even they know who they are? Make Storm a ten-year old girl? Collosus a gay painter living in the East Village? Have the Mandarin turn Psylocke into a Asian ninja? Have Wolverine crucified in Christ-fashion after being brutally beaten and tortured for multiple issues?
Well when you say it like that, then it really does sound like an extreme storyline.

In case you can’t read Interlac, here’s the translation from the recent JLA/JSA team-up.
Benhatt also explains why the new JLA line-up works for me, just not under Meltzer.
When you enter the room, when you sit at the table you have to be more than your secret identity, you have to be the damn Justice League of America. In his run, Meltzer has yet to have the characters sit down and act they belong there. The table is so much more than furniture; it is a symbol to the members on how they should act.
See a group of superheroes; living together; working out in a holographic training room; talking about their worries and doubts is not a JLA comic. It is a X-Men comic. That is not meant as a slight. I love the X-Men, heck; through “Executioner’s Song” they were my favorite team. But the X-Men are the X-Men and the tone of their book does not work for the number one team in the DCU.

And finally, who says that Free Comic Book Day can’t be Free Comic Book Month.
May 5 is Free Comic Book Day, but here at YACB one day isn’t good enough. We’ll be giving away free comics every day of May!
That’s right, free comics! Each day of May I’ll pick someone to receive a free comic, taken from my personal collection: duplicates, things I have in trades, and other stuff. My goal is to match up people with a comic that they haven’t read but that they may like. My tastes are wide and varied, so chances are I’ve got a comic for you.
And by free I mean free. Really. No cost, no shipping & handling, all free.

Peace.

I remember last year’s was pretty fun. I was thinking about participating, but the odds are pretty good I would get something I already have. I’ll just let the comics go to another good home.

Sorry, Sleestak. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I usually spell it right.
No problem Bully! You deserve the attention.
