Twentieth Century Fox - Not afraid to go after the little guy, as Brandon from Film Ick demonstrates:
[Fox IP lawyers are] trying to pressure me into removing the scathingly negative review I posted of their Wolverine script. As far as I can see, there’s no reason for me to remove the review. It’s a review! So, please, take a look at the letter and if you’re legally trained, please leave genuine advice in the comments. I don’t want to take the review down if I don’t have to. People are interested in it.
Oh, and by the way - the script is bad. And it looks like Brett Ratner is the forerunner to direct. Sorry, Wolverine fans.
Brandon runs the full text of the email he recieved from Fox, which includes the following: “we must demand that you immediately remove the review from your http://www.filmick.co.uk website. We further request that you provide written acknowledgment to the undersigned that you have ceased the infringing conduct complained of herein. Should you refuse to remove the review and provide written acknowledgement by close of business on Wednesday, May 2, 2007, we will consider exercising all remedies available to Fox, including taking action against you without further notice to you.”
(Thanks, Rich.)

Lovely. Fox has no case, but they know that dragging this Brendon guy into court would cost him a disproportionate amount of time and trouble, so they’re hoping he’ll avoid the whole mess by doing what they say.
I hope he keeps the review on the site, and Fox backs down. Bullies usually do when people stand up to them.

this is how aintitcoolnews.com became so popular, in a way. WB tried to force harry knowles to remove all the negative early fan reviews of batman & robin from his site. of course, they couldn’t do anything because they were opinions and reviews are protected under free speech and in no way can be viewed as slander(etc.)

I wonder if Fox is using the same lawyer as Todd Goldman…
