OK, I’ll admit it… I haven’t watched Heroes yet. My excuse: The DVR “ate” the first 11 eps I was saving for a rainy day, so guess I’ll be waiting for the DVD. Even as “Heroes-challenged” as I am, however, think I’ll be checking out Hewoes, written and drawn by Bill Maus for Parody Press Comics, shipping in July.
Judge for yourselves if Hewoes is your cup of tea, by checking out the first four pages.

Wow, how…..crappy.
Now I’m not just saying that because I like the show(and I really, really do), but just having the characters talk to the reader about whatever axes the writer has to grind over the show isn’t really parody. It’s just a steaming turd served up in the guise of humor, like those Civil War ‘remixs’ that popped up.
Write a story that is funny and takes the piss outta the real story, and I’ll be there.
Having doppelgangers inform me directly about why you don’t like the show…..I’ll save my money.

You know the 90s are back when Bill Maus and the gang start cranking out parodies again.
I always thought the dude had way, way more potential than lifting other people’s properties.

Ugh. I couldn’t even finish three pages of that preview. The term ‘sophmoric’ comes to mind.
It looks and reads like something MAD rejected.

So it’s a Mad Magazine parody stretched to 22 pages?
Eesh, those things get annoying after only 3.

Oh that was really crappy! God, are they really going to publish that? The cover seems funny though..

I’m not sure if Mad has done a version yet, but even at its worst it would be funnier. Oy vey. I appreciate a good parody. Not only does this not have narrative flow, the “points” it makes are either obvious or utterly trivial.
Not only do I not plan on buying this, I plan on telling anyone I see approaching it in the store how crappy I thought the preview was.

Just simply horrible!! It’s not even slightly funny.
