Can’t Wait for Wednesday

April 18th, 2007
Author Stephanie Chan

The weather is warming up where I am, but they say it won’t last. I’m going to sip on some iced tea and my comics outside while I can.

Speaking of comics, what does everyone hyped about this week?

JK Parkin’s Pick of the Week

My pick is the surreal Last Sane Cowboy & Other Stories, coming out from AiT/Planet Lar this week, which looks to be unlike anything else coming out this week … or next, and probably for many weeks to come.  Check out Daniel Merlin Goodbrey’s website for previews and other fun stuff

Tom Bondurant’s Pick of the Week

Birds Of Prey #105 for me. The last issue had a pretty exciting ending, even without the revelations about You-Know-Who. Now the arc’s part of Gail Simone’s farewell tour, so I just expect things to ratchet up from there.

Stephanie Chan’s Pick of the Week

I’m still on my manga kick, and another issue of one of my favourites comes out this week: Ghost in the Shell 1.5: Human Error Processor #7.

Lisa Fortuner’s Pick of the Week

The Spirit #5, of course. After the way he handled Silk Satin, I’m addicted.

Wayne Beamer’s Pick of the Week
Rocketo: Journey to the Hidden Sea, Vol. 2 TP by Marie Taylor and Frank Espinosa: Had my friends not met the very friendly and more talented Frank Espinosa two years ago at Comicon: San Diego, I might’ve still been in the dark about one of the finest adventure series ever produced for the comics medium.

Reading Rocketo made me feel like a kid again, squirreled away in my bedroom on a early 1960s summer’s afternoon reading the Atomic Knights, Space Ranger, Tarzan and Adam Strange. Homage-free, the stories felt familiar and different all at the same time. And this is a wonderful book to give to the non-comics reader or a child you know.

True Story, Swear to God by Tom Beland #6: Other than the above-mentioned Rocketo, I look forward to no other single comic more than this one, as each one appears — seemingly by magic — at my neighborhood comic shop. Tom has nailed the complexities of love,
all the good and not so good, in his auto-bio comic…

Chris Mautner’s Pick of the Week

Micrographica. A new Renee French book is always cause for celebration. Also, the latest Gogol 13 volume, which undoubtedly will have more over the top super-sniper madness in it. How can it not?

Graeme McMillan’s Pick of the Week

You know what? Even though I suspect strongly that it’s going to be a really, really bad storytelling (and marketing) decision, the five-part World War III storyline from DC (in 52 #50, and World War III #1-4) this week fascinates me and calls to me in a siren song, drawing me towards the cliffs of expositionary One Year Later explanations…

So what are your picks this week?

52 #50( with WW3 titles), JLA, Flash, and Sensational Spiderman are the best 1′s from this week. Im getting a handful of others, but not as anticipated.
