Vinyl statues, stuck zippers and growing breasts

April 17th, 2007

Retailer Lisa Lopacinski looks at DC’s July solicitations — specifically, DC Direct’s Kotobukiya statues of Catwoman and Supergirl — and asks, “What is DC doing with its gals?”

To compare them to how these characters usually look in the comics I’ve also posted comic book art of them. Catwoman, as you can see, usually has her costume zipped all the way up. But this statue version is quite different. It looks like the zipper must have gotten stuck or her breasts grew to a size where she can no longer zip up her costume. Then there’s Supergirl. Even drawn she looks like she’s not really dressed all that appropriate, in my opinion. But the statue is even worse. Those are the perkiest nipples EVER — must be in the fortress of solitude. And that skirt is barely hanging on there. She might want to pull it up a little — although that would just expose her somewhere else since it looks pretty short.

She goes on to conclude that DC is aiming for the “lowest common denominator” while ignoring female toy collectors and comics readers by “deciding to whore up these two gals.”

I saw that Supergirl statue and thought “Wow, that’s belongs Maxim. I feel dirty just looking at it.”
I really like the Fables statue; it manages to be sensual (Rose’s skin tight tee and hip huggers) without being overtly pornographic, and makes it look like she’s ready to kick some major butt, not flash it.

Dang, I’ve never seen the Super-shield so undulated on the chest of it’s wearer! While my first reaction as a male is “Those are so hot”, I would never have the guts to display them.

I know some guys like the company of an actual living woman.

For others, its all about the porn.

But for me, if I want to get my rocks off, oh man, just bring on those the female superhero statues. Not much hotter than that. How do I spell sexy? C-A-T-W-O-M-A-N S-T-A-T-U-E.

Seriously though, someone needs to come up with a name for superhero statue fetishists, becase that is clearly who these are for.

Think about how Power Girl would look.

On the lighter side, I bought this Catwoman 12″ doll last fall. She’s from the Cool Girl like by Takara, was very awesome, super-articulated and not whored up.

I wish there was more of these dolls instead.

Thing is, Power Girl got a bust (no pun intended) that wasn’t terribly “sexed up”- presumably the thinking was, her default costume shows a lot of cleavage so you don’t have to go out of your way to make it all fanservice-y.

These two- trying a little too hard, guys.
