WFMU’s Beware of the Blog takes a not-so-fond look at Charlton Comics:
Although there were plenty of comic book labels churning out poorly rendered crap while labels like Dell, EC, and National Periodical/DC received all the attention, no other peripheral comic group lasted as long as Charlton. The company was a cringe inducing comic book presence on newsstands for an incredible forty years, from nineteen forty-six to eighty-six. An impressive run for a company who’s output was often unreadable.
The only time I ever saw Charlton Comics were in the barbershop or the doctor’s office and they always seemed a step down from Marvel or DC’s fare to me. Did anyone ever actually see these books on a newsstand?

I remember buying some of them in three-packs during road trips. Probably from Stuckey’s.

Some of the first comics I ever got were Charlton’s tie-ins for Emergency!, Six Million Dollar Man and Space: 1999…including some of John Byrne’s earliest pro work.
