Hodder & Stoughton, a British publisher of religious books, among other titles, has jumped on the manga bandwagon with the Manga Bible:
You think you know what’s in the Bible? Think again!
Siku’s provocative, edgy style brings a whole new dimension to the most important book in history.
The Manga Bible has been created by Siku, the conceptualist and illustrator described by David Bishop (ex-2000AD & Judge Dredd Megazine editor) as ‘One of Britain’s best young comic book artists’.
The Manga Bible launches in February 2007, when the New Testament is published in two different formats: Raw and Extreme. Siku is currently hard at work on the Old Testament, and the full Bible will be released later in 2007.
Both versions are out now, and are not to be confused with the other Manga Bible…

Y’know, this really isn’t much of a stretch as some people are going to think it is. So many of the biblical cartoons in the past were done overseas in the “wide-eyed” anime style like Pokemon a long time ago…

raw?
And extreme?
So, what, are they going the low road of The Passion to instill fervent religious belief by producing snuff comics?
Sounds like the whole evangelical ‘hell house’ mentality going on here.
Would rather see a real Manga Bible, as in done in Japan. It would be interesting to see the stories interpreted by people who think its just a collection of wierd stories rather than something to base your life on…but thats just me.

Eric is right. One of my ancestors died a martyr during the Tokugawa era. My uncle was descended from the Christian Japanese who basically hid out in the Japan Alps for hundreds of years after some of their number were massacred by the Tokugawa. The Japanese Christians suffered terribly in a way that I don’t think any American Christian has ever done in this country.
