As DC Comics has not yet announced a new writer for Legion of Super-Heroes, I feel the time is ripe for a somewhat satirical internet campaign self-promotional effort to get myself a proper creative-creating type of a job.
Thus, my new Internet effort! Every day this month (well, except yesterday, but who starts these things on a Sunday, I ask you) is a celebration! Namely, the “Christopher Bird Should Write The Legion” celebration. In addition to my regular and thoroughly glorious posting schedule, I will be adding a daily graphic to make sure everybody understands how awesome a Legion comic written by moi would be. I furthermore encourage all of you out there in Internet-land to link back to this post (which I’ll be updating with links to the subsequent reasons as I post them) so that Googling “new writer Legion of Super-Heroes” sends people here! And also to sign the petition that each image will link to!
If you folks do all of that, then DC Comics will have no choice but to… well, do whatever they want, actually, but so what. I’m gonna have me some fun with this. Some of my reasons will be slightly silly, some of them are serious ideas I’d actually like to write in the comic, but they’re all – and I guarantee this – stuff about the Legion that is awesome to me. So at least in that, this campaign is one hundred percent honest!
As a Legion fan, I would buy the shit out’ve the book if he got the chance to follow through on his suggestions. Please, DC: Make this happen.

Okay, I’m not at all into ‘Girl Detective.’ But I would buy the monthly AND THE TRADE just for Karate Kid fighting an entire planet, and of course for Motherfucking Blok.
DC: Give into his demands.

I sort of like Bedard in that position.
Can’t he go after one of Judd’s titles or soemthing?

His remixes werent very good, but then again i dont belong to the angry minority that hated civil war

I really dig the explosion of Naltor and his take on Brainiac 5. And Apes in Space? I’m totally down with that.
Gimme some.

Yeah, there were parts in his remixes that I thought were actually funny and in-character rather than funny and out-of-character. I’d love to see it.

I thought his remix was better written than Civil War, and I’m not saying that just because I didn’t like Civil War much (I liked the hitting; just not the characterisations). Chris seemed to get the characterisations right on the cast of CW and brought the funny. That’s smart writing. So yeah, why not give him the Legion.

I love the idea of Matter Eater Lad as a borderline psychotic Legion wannabe. If Chris doesn’t get Legion, he should at least be given a mini-series to play with SOME of DC’s currently-in-storage characters

Er. He wouldn’t be borderline psychotic. He would be how Tenzil Kem rolls: smooth operator in the name of good all the way, with a casual disregard for things like “the rules” and “who is actually a Legionnaire.” (I am an enormous fan of Giffen’s v4 Tenzil, if you are looking for rough guidelines as to how I think the character works.)

Fair enough. Since his scenes are pretty much the only thing I remember about v4, I’ll go with that. I trust you to make it work.
(I mean, Karate Kid vs. a whole planet? Hot damn!)
