The Courier-Mail in Australia takes a look at the Ghost Who Walks, whose Australian comic has reached issue 1,500:

FOR those who came in late to The Phantom, as many of his comic adventures begin, nearly 60 years after publishing its first Australian edition of The Phantom in comic book form, Sydney publisher Frew last week commemorated a world record of 1500 continuous issues with the release of a special collectors’ edition issue.

More info on The Phantom’s Australian publisher, Frew Publications, can be found here. Also check out King Features for recent Phantom newspaper comic strips, featuring art by Paul Ryan, who draws the daily strip, and Graham Nolan, whose work appears on Sunday.

It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I discovered the Phantom was NOT actually an Australian-made comic. Weird.

The Phantom is HUGE over here. At one stage the Phantom Phanclub had thousands of members including most leading politicians.
