It looks as if The Metal Men could be one of the next DC Comics properties to make the jump to the big screen. Strange, yes, but apparently true.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men: The Last Stand, Constantine) is producing the Warner Bros. film, based on the off-beat team of robots created in 1962 by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru. Eric Champnella (Eddie, Mr. 3000) is writing the screenplay.
Geoff Johns, who helped to develop the film’s take on The Metal Men, will be an executive producer.
First appearing in DC’s Showcase #37 (March-April 1962), The Metal Men are six metal-themed robots created by pipe-smoking scientist Dr. Will Magnus, whose “responsometer” invention gives them life: Iron, Gold, Lead, Tin, Mercury and Platinum.
In 1962, the concept spun off into its own title, which ran for 41 issues. Subsequent attempts to revive the book have been less than successful, relegating the characters to guest-star status. The Metal Men most recently played a role in the opening arc of the relaunched Justice League of America.

I love the Metal Men; this is going to be cool…
That cover is really funny; I’d love to know the inspiration for it.
