Rumor mill: Supergirl returns … to the big screen?

"Supergirl" DVD

Less than a week after rumors of a Justice League movie comes talk — and very iffy talk at that — from JoBlo.com that Warner Bros. could be preparing Supergirl for a return to the big screen.

The website cites a tip from someone called “Lip” that the studio already has commissioned a script, and that Battlestar Galactica’s Tricia Helfer is on the list of possible stars.

Of course, Helfer turns 33 next month, which makes her a little old for the role of Supergirl. Not that I’m questioning “Lip,” or anything.

However, even JoBlo is a little skeptical, wondering whether “our source is somehow confusing it with Wonder Woman, rendering this entire rumor moot.”

Supergirl’s previous venture into theaters was in the plain-awful 1984 movie starring Helen Slater, Faye Dunaway and Peter O’Toole. It grossed $14 million, less even than Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.

JoBlo’s source could have also confused Supergirl with Lobo, and I don’t mean DC’s Lobo, I mean Sheriff Lobo, the BJ & The Bear spinoff…

    Wait, wait–maybe it’s actually PAD’s Fallen Angel. Yea, that’s it. :)

Honestly, about a year ago, I got confused about which Supergirl is Supergirl in the DCU. Now if you want to make a film with the animated Supergirl from Justice League Unlimited, that’d be a great movie–but it would be animated, of course…oh never mind.

Cruel with the BJ & the Bear quip, I have wondered why TV Land or DVD’s had left both BJ & the Sheriff Lobo series out.

I had such a crush on Helen Slater…..and plainawful is not exactly right. I liked it and it is better than Catwoman. Of course anything is better than Carwoman.

  3. Tim O'Shea Says:

Greg Evigan won’t allow it unless it’s packaged with My Two Dads…I am so kidding.

Carwoman?!?! Ah, I hate my poor spelling skillz.

If it’s done the right way, this could be a great movie for teens. Helfer would be horrible for the part. Too old and her features are too hard. I vote for Kristen Bell. :D She’s not exactly right but she’s far better, at the very least. :p

More like your typing skills. :D

    Agreed.
