Catching up with Joe Sacco

March 26th, 2007
Author Wayne Beamer

If you enjoy the work of comics journalist Joe Sacco as much as I do, get thee to a newsstand to pick up a copy of the April 2007 Harper’s Magazine. Therein, you’ll get Sacco’s first-hand look at why Iraqi soldiers won’t be replacing U.S. forces anytime soon, a 16-page story that’s both sad and riveting in detail.

Even though there’s no Web link for the Sacco story at the Harper’s Magazine site, you’ll enjoy this two-part interview with the reporter/cartoonist conducted by Huma Yusuf, a fellow journalist working in Pakistan for Confessions of an Aca/Fan: The Official Weblog of Henry Jenkins.

A sidenote: I did get a kick out of this nice political cartoon by Mr. Fish in Harper’s, spoofing the whole Captain America assassination spectacle, however.

Wow. That swastika. It’s almost subtle, in the same way that a desert is almost wet.
