Tezuka invades bookstores, San Francisco.

March 23rd, 2007
Author Graeme McMillan

ICv2 talks about a new book about an international pop icon:

Stone Bridge Press has announced the upcoming release of  The Astro Boy Essays: Osamu Tezuka, Mighty Atom, and the Manga-Anime Revolution, by Frederik Schodt.  Schodt was translator and close friend to Tezuka,  the “God of Manga,” and is author of Manga! Manga! The World of Japanese Comics, Dreamland Japan, and Native American in the Land of Shogun.

Of more interest to me as a San Francisco boy is the news that this book will be available pre-official release at “Tezuka: The Marvel of Manga,” an exhibition running in the Asian Art Museum June through September:

Regarded in Japan as “The God of Comics,” Osamu Tezuka is an icon in the world of manga (Japanese comics) and revered as an artistic master. This major exhibition—the first of its kind outside of Japan—features more than 200 original drawings, paintings, and more.

Awesome.

  1. Matthew Says:

Osamu Tezuka was the Jack Kirby of Japan.

  2. Hugh Stewart Says:

Osamu Tezuka’s not just the Jack Kirby of Japan, though, he’s the Osamu Tezuka of the world.

Where Kirby made some completely insane and awesome and innovative superhero comics, Tezuka just made completely crazy and insane and awesome comics about anything and everything.

Oh, that’s just beautiful. Thanks for the heads-up, Mister McMillan!

  4. Ralph Says:

Any new book from Frederik Schodt is #1 on my reading list.
