Rumors on how a Justice League movie may work…

Superman Returns

Both Cinematical and Moviehole are reporting an interesting rumor regarding how a Justice League film, a topic fellow Newsarama blogger Tom Bondurant discussed earlier this month, could get off the ground, literally: Relegate the Superman Returns sequel, Man of Steel, to turnaround status, and move Brandon Routh as Superman to the JLA feature. And the rumored JLA movie won’t include Batman!

Yes, it a lot of conjecture, and a lot of stars have to lineup properly. But, if the rumors are true, it could be a lot fun too…

Speaking of The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan was seen in Chicago yesterday, according to Batman on Film. Is it ever too early to do scouting for locations, or to have an excuse to travel to Chicago?

Yeah…it can be too early to use an excuse to go to Chicago: it’s still too cold there! :D

I’d want Batman in the JLA movie, though…

Ha. They can’t even figure out how to do a Wonder Woman movie and now they are taking on the whole League?

    Good luck!

  3. Nimbus Says:

Hmm. They could use the line-up from the recent Smallville episode “Justice”. Considering Smallville often drops in links to the original Superman movie, then it would be interesting to see a movie that linked to the Smallville series by reuniting the Justice characters.

You don’t…don’t make the JLA origin movie (and the first is always the beginning) without Batman. Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman are integral characters in the formation of this supergroup and excluding one forfeits the myraid of possibilities in following the cannon of the comic orgin.

I would love to see a JL movie. But, you don’t need to have Batman and Superman to be in it. Each has their own franchise, in varying states of development and success.
If the movie was centered around Green Lantern, the Flash and Wonder Woman, with 2-3 more heroes filling out the roster (please, oh please J’onn J’onzz) it could be successful. However, there would need to be some Bats/Supes presence in the trailer. If there was some “heroic” voice-over, showing action clips, shots of the heroes, etc, with a shot of Batman from behind, not showing his face, same with Superman - no dialogue in the trailer, people would think those two would be in the movie. In reality the scenes could just be Batman saying “I don’t work with teams” and jumping off of a rooftop, and Superman saying “I can’t leave Metropolis, but if you ever really need me, call” and flying away it could work. Would audiences feel cheated? Only if the rest of the movie stinks. Is “Watchmen” going to be successful? Think John Q. Public knows who Rorshach is? If the movie, Watchmen or JL is good it won’t matter that general audiences don’t know the characters. And it would give WB and DC the opportunity to then start 3 new franchises, WW, GL and Flash. All the haters out there gotta let this play out. I don’t want to see anything even remotely like Batman and Robin hit the big screen, but there are a lot of writers/directors who respect the source material enough to do it justice, no pun intended!

Yes, you DO need Batman and Superman to do a League movie. If you DON’T, it’s not the League. It’s that lame-a**ed thing that took place years ago, with Vibe and a bunch of Nobodies masquerading as the League. So, if you’re not going to do the founding members, as originally established in 40+ years of written cannon, don’t bother, please. I prefer to keep my childhood memories intact, rather than have Hollywood rape them with another miserable “re-envisioning.”
