Last Friday, a few took umbrage with me mentioning Jake Gyllenhaal’s name in the same breath with Tobey Maguire’s replacement in an unplanned, but expected Spider-Man 4 sequel.

Apparently, New Line and Marvel may duke it out for Gyllenhaal’s services, as the former really wants the Brokeback Mountain co-star (see future Joker Heath Ledger) to play the Big Red Cheese in a Captain Marvel movie, according to rumors reported by CHUD and Dark Horizons.

    No, let’s not. Really. They’re well past their sell-by date, they’re tired, they’re not funny, and almost all of them are outright offensive.
