Avengers: Hey, Tony. That’s just wrong.

Spoiler warning for those who haven’t read this week’s New Avengers, but the Bendis Board is kind of concerned about what happened to their heroes:

“So how are we supposed to like The Mighty Avengers when [t]hey lie about Captain America being alive to their ‘friends’? I know, i know, a police officer is allowed to lie to a suspect and the New Avengers are fugatives, but this seems just kind of…sick. Not tricky, but really awful. If one of my best friends died, and then someone told me he was alive just to trap me, i don’t think I would ever, ever forgive them. I’m sorry but Iron Man, and now Ms. Marvel are acting more evil then someone like Electro ever has….”

“Who says you’re supossed to like them? Some of my favorite characters are ones that are written to be very unlikable. All that matters is if you’re INTERESTED in them.”

“I want to like the Mighty Avengers, I do. But I’ve had customers express that they feel a little weird about them. Prior to NA #28 I was good to go. After that, its a little tough. It makes Ms. Marvel look really bad too for goign through with that. Things truly are broken between the groups, especially after that particular trap. This is an interesting experiment. I wonder if Marvel really realized how polarizing CW would end up being.”

“I agree - they are INTERESTING. I’m more fascinated by the internal conflict of this team and their reasoning. I mean come on, is Frank Castle likable? Is Wolverine likable? Is Emma Frost likable (apart from the obious T&A)? All have done VERY morally questionable things. Yet they’re all much loved characters on some very high selling books.”

“[Tony Stark] really reminds me of Hal Jordan at his darkest hour, or Magneto as written by Claremont. And that’s a character I love. After Confession, I see him as a much more sympathetic, tragic character who was willing to sacrifice as many people as he needed, as well as his own personal standing, to see his vision through, and is only now beginning to see the tragic price. I don’t like him, but I find him fascinating.”

“The violation of personal ethics bothers me a lot more than the violation of the law. Laws can be repealed and changed. Personal ethics are all we ever truly have. Which is why I am on the New Avengers’ side. (You know, in case they need a foul-mouthed fat kid).”

“So… are there any genuinely ‘good’ guys in the Marvel Universe anymore? There’s making things interesting and more realistic, sure, but is it going to far? Having some superheroes that aren’t assholes might be a good idea…”

Which side are you on! Which side are you on! WHICH SIDE ARE YOU ON!

Isnt Wolverine, a mutant, registered already under the mutant registration act. So all they can get him for is aiding and abetting.
As for the dead body thing…the best way to get people to stop looking for the still living body of CA is to have them find it used as a trap. The clone was shot and Cap is Ronin and the new avangers will stop looking for the body. Tony had to do it to draw them out and get them to stop looking for the body and keep Caps cover.

  2. Paul O'Brien Says:

Yup, they established back during Civil War that all the X-Men were registered (because they were all under guard by the Sentinels already). But then, Spider-Man is registered too.

  3. Spencer Carnage Says:

Did Luke Cage punch Ms. Marvel in the boob and say that it was from Captain America? I NEED TO KNOW.

  4. Tuckenie (Chris Tucker) Says:

I think the real deal with the Mighty Avengers and Iron Man is that Tony is starting to realize how badly he’s messed up the world is unfortunatly using even worse methods to try and fix his mistakes. He wants the New Avengers to join him before SHIELD get’s to them and does real damage but he’s using Cap’s death as a cover. Marvel’s playing it tragic all the way. Unless of course Ultron has been behind it all along… (joke, really)

  5. JohnnyZito Says:

Speaking of clones etc… if Tony can bring back thor he can bring back cap… “Claptain America”
