Probably, the most important piece of history written in recent years — albeit to many fanboys and fangirls — has been Marv Wolfman’s rewriting of the DC Comics universe in Crisis on Infinite Earths, now an unbelievable 22 years old as well as the subsequent History of the DC Universe.
Last weekend, I had a chance to take a quick look at an advance copy of possibly Wolfman’s most important comic work of his lifetime, with collaborators Bill Rubin and Mario Ruiz: Homeland, a history of Israel from biblical Abraham to the present, soon to be released by Chicago-based Nachson Press. You can feel the passion the creators felt on each page, as well as the difficulties in cramming so much history into a 120-page overview of Israeli history.
BTW, if the style of the cover art looks familiar, it should: Movie poster artist extraordinaire, Drew Struzan, illustrated it.
