I’m sure everyone can guess what the hot-topic of this week is, what with everyone up to including CNN spoilering the whole of the United States…
But in case you do live under a rock and/or haven’t obtained your weekly comics yet, I’ll give you a very strong warning that the links and excerpts below have VERY BIG SPOILERS FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA #25.
Point:
Doctor Teeth reacts to the events of the comic by looking back:
It made me care about my old Captain America comics, though, and I pulled out my as-yet-unread Madbomb trade to pour over on Friday in memoriam. I’m not sure that’s what Marvel wanted; I’m sure they wanted me to buy Captain America #25, and then the five one-shots, and bla bla bla. But again: burnout. Right now I’d rather look back than look forward at what might happen. It might be unrealistically nostalgic, but it’s where I’m at. Besides, there are few things as good as seeing Steve Rogers and Snap Wilson punching out people, Kirby-style. Unless the people they were punching were Nazis. Ah, Captain America beating up facists. Sometimes, I just get by on my simple pleasures.
Counterpoint:
Bahlactus, in contrast, reacts by looking toward future possibilities:
Captain America is an ideal that was created with the blood of men who died for their country. Only one survived, and this black man was truly the first symbol that would become the icon we acknowledge today. Isaiah Bradley was the first Captain American, but he wasn’t the last. With Frank Castle holding the mantle of freedom, it’s time for a more qualified hero to step up. Logic dictates that The Falcon, a close friend of the late Rogers who fought alongside him, be the new face of freedom, and I’m down with that. BRING BACK TRUTH! — Red, White, and Black.

Out of all of the Marvel characters, including those with patriotic themes [i.e. Jack Flag, Super-Patriot, US Agent, Free Spirit, etc.], I thought the perfect sucessor to Steve Rogers would have been Lamar Hoskins aka Battlestar.

I think if we’re honestly gonna replace Cap for good it should be with a new character who is more in line with 21st century America and her divided attitudes.

Captain Red State/Blue State. Costume color to be decided by which fifty state initiative group he is in in terms of Repub or Dem majorities. In some states would be for giving up civil liberties for securities, another stands strong for those liberties. Would be killed every time he stands for civil liberties and a new Cap Red Blue called forth!
