Kelly: You gets what you paids for.

Ryan Kelly, artist for Local, has worked out a win-win for everyone involved on his blog:

I took a whimsical suggestion and put a MAKE A DONATION button down yonder in the sidebar under the I Power Blogger. Before you call me tacky and a hypocrite just wait and listen, please.

I set up this site primarily to showcase an unpublished comic property I need to do someday, hopefully soon. The timing isn’t right yet, so in the meantime I show work and also attempt to sell originals and prints and stuff. Someday I’ll have an official website, but I’ve found that making a website is the hardest thing in the world and I’d rather go mountain climbing or something.

I’m establishing a new program here.

You make a donation of $15.00 to me and I’ll send you a piece of artwork. Yes, wipe the sleep from your eyes, that’s what I said. That’s $10.00 for the art and $5.00 for the cost of shipping it and the price of the envelope.

The art could be some random preliminary sketch, it could be a comic page, it could be an old sketch, it could be 10-year old student work (Very likely). It might be an inkjet print. It could be all the collars ripped off my nice dress shirts. I don’t know.Maybe…Something really good!

Heck, send 10.00 and I send you something. A quick doodle on some scrap of paper. Some beleaguered old piece of art. Some scary piece of something I once called art. Please don’t expect a masterpiece in the mail. It’s stuff I’m getting rid of.

Send me $25.00 and you get something better(!!). $25.00 value of art. Send me $50 and you get $50 worth of it. Send $100, and likewise. Send over $100.00 and well, we need to talk.

Tell your friends.

You know you want to.

(Thanks, Chris.)
