Kim Thompson reports over at the Fantagraphics blog that their ongoing Complete Peanuts books has hit a wee bit of a snag:
This Sunday strip, from November 7th, 1965, has never been reprinted in any book and does not exist in the Schulz archives or the syndicate’s archives. Thanks to our good friend Timothy Chow, we have secured a set of reproductions from photocopies of newspapers, but these are all in black and white — particularly unfortunate since the last few panels are colored very darkly and turn into mush in the BW version, as you can see.
Our only hope to get a decent reproduction is if some collector out there has a COLOR TEARSHEET of this strip (or lives in a city where the daily newspaper actually archived their complete papers including comics sections — if there is such a beast). We can strip out colors from a color file with relative ease. Embedded as gray tones, not so much.
Failing that we’ll just retouch this one as much as we can and run with it.
