NYCC: My picture diary part the first

Beyond these doors, what wonders awaits?

Well, whatever cold bug claimed me for the past week seemed to vanish just in time for me to get on a train to New York City and check out the Comic Con. Even though I was only there for about a day and a half, I managed to see and do quite a bit, or at least enought thatI feel comfortable throwing out my two cents without seeming like a complete jackass (not that it’s ever stopped me before).

I’ll post my thoughts on the show tomorrow (short version: miles better than last year, but still some growing pains). For now, I thought I’d just post some pictures.

Pikachu!

Many feared the day that the dreaded giant Pikachu would return to bring death from the skies.

Singstar Pop!

Video games had a big showing at the con. This was taken at the Sony booth, and shows some folks playing Sony’s new karaoke-style game, “Singstar Pop!”

Guitar Hero II

More video game stuff. This was at the UGO booth and shows folks strumming along to “Guitar Hero II.” Judging by the guitars they’re holding, I believe it’s the upcoming Xbox 360 version.

Artists' Alley

Artists Alley, Saturday morning, right before the mass onslaught.

Mothers/Daughters panel

The Women/Daughters Panel on Friday evening was one of the highlights of the event for me. From left that’s Heidi McDonald, Aline Kominsky Crumb, Alison Bechdel and Miriam Katrin. Getting to meet these artists was a real thrill.

Long lines

Taken outside the Javits Center early Saturday morning. Hopefully this gives you an idea of the large crowd that was at the show. It was bitter cold outside too, and I felt very bad for these poor ticket holders. Luckly the line seemed to be moving swiftly.

A view from above

Taken from a window along Artists Alley, which was above the main floor. I believe that’s the ADV booth in the center left. They had a little balcony of their own and every so often would bang a drum and throw t-shirts and stuffed animals to the crowd below. I found that irksome.

Jeff Smith, Thomas Sniegoski and adoring fan

Jeff Smith and Tom Sniegoski sign comics for an eager fan at the Cartoon Books booth.

Someone please tell me who the girl in the center was supposed to be

What’s a con without stormtroopers and jedi? What I ask you? Apparently the stormtroopers were also serving as security help, which was kind of cute.

More stuff tomorrow …

Man, i feel really nerdy for knowing this, but the girl is supposed to be Padme from the Clone Wars animated series.
