The Cybil Awards, doled out by bloggers to worthy children’s books, were recently announced. In the graphic novel category, “Amelia Rules Vol. 3: Superheroes” by Jim Gownley took the 12 and under category, while “American Born Chinese” by Gene Yang won for the 13 and up category.

There could be only one winner in each age level, so while manga titles were nominated, the roller-coaster that is American Born Chinese won. I see nothing wrong with that. The other consideration is the paucity of children’s manga translated into English. If we had more of those, who knows …
